SCCM Client Version – 2023/10/12

We compile a list of SCCM client versions, build numbers and cumulative updates since the 2012 RTM release.

SCCM Upgrades are released 3-4 times a year. After an SCCM Upgrade, it’s important to upgrade your SCCM Client version to the latest version.

Cumulative updates are cumulative, meaning that the latest one includes the previous one. (Ex: You don’t need to apply CU1 if you plan to install CU2)

Once you apply a cumulative update, your SCCM version on the site server itself will not change. The site server will show the latest major SCCM release (RTM,SP1,R2). However, the new SCCM version numbers will show on your Consoles and Clients.

We recommend that you upgrade all your clients when you are applying the latest SCCM version. We release a step-by-step guide on how to update your SCCM server each time a version comes out. Just use the link next to the client version in the table to be redirected to the upgrade post.

Legend

This is the info alert box for sharing…info.

  • CU : Cumulative Update
  • UR : Update Rollup
  • IR : Interoperability update
  • FW : First Wave
  • Baseline : Version that you can use to upgrade SCCM 2012 or install a new site. Always use the latest available baseline for these scenarios.

Why your SCCM Client version is important

Knowing which client version you are running in your environment lets you benefit from the SCCM (MECM) latest features. If you update your site to the latest build version but you are not updating your SCCM clients, you may not enable all features.

Use the search function to find your exact client version. If you don’t know how to find your version, jump the table and read our section about how to get your version.

How to get your SCCM Version Number

SCCM Client Version Report

Running a report to see your client version is the easiest method. You can see all available versions in a single report.

We have built an SCCM Client version report to give detailed information about your SCCM client version in your environment. Using this report, you’ll be able to easily identify which client version is outdated.

SCCM Client Version Report

From the SCCM Console

You can also get your site version number from the SCCM (MECM) console

  • Open the ConfigMgr console
  • Browse to Administration / Site Configuration / Sites
  • Right-click on the site and select Properties
  • You’ll find the site version and build number
sccm client version numbers

To see all client version from the console :

  • Open the SCCM console and navigate to Assets and Compliance / Devices
  • In the devices view, right-click on the header and select Client Version

You can also use the Client Health Dashboard to list your client version :

  • Open the ConfigMgr console
  • Browse to Monitoring / Client Status / Client Health Dashboard
  • You’ll see the Client Version Details chart
sccm client version

Create an SCCM Client Version collection

You can create a collection to list your client version in your console. Here’s the WQL Query that you can use :

You just need to replace your Client version at the end of the query

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.ClientVersion != 'SCCM CLIENT VERSION'

We also created a script that creates more than 100 Operational collections that include all the latest SCCM Client versions:

You can download the script on my Github repository.

This is the best table on the internet! Thanks. You can also get your version number from the Registry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Setup and using PowerShell Get-CMSite (ConfigMgr PowerShell Module)

Hello, I am struggling to find a download for 1511. All I can see in Eval Center and VLSC is the download for 1606 or 1610 CB. According to your guids, I cannot upgrade from my current setup, SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 - CU1, to 1606. There must be a workaround here somewhere, but I can't find anything online. Any tips? Cheers

Hi Doug, Sorry if our articles were misleading. You CAN upgrade from SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 to SCCM 1606 without problem. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/install/upgrade-to-configuration-manager

Awesome, thank you. You might want to replace the below line then from the 1606 upgrade guide you have: "You can’t install this upgrade if you are running SCCM 2012. You need to be at least at SCCM 1511."

i want to install SCCM 2016. does it require schema update?

Jonathan Lefebvre

02.08.2017 AT 09:32 AM
Hi dipak, If you already have done the Schema update for previous SCCM version, no need to do it again. If it's a new installation, yes you need a schema update. I suggest you take a look at our installation guide https://systemcenterdudes.com/step-by-step-sccm-1511-configuration/ SCCM 2016 (LTSB) should NOT be installed ever. Look to install version 1511 or 1606. Jonathan

So we just recently upgraded to SCCM 1610 and before we were having an issue of one of the cumulative updates, SP1 CU4, where it would not install. Is this no longer needed as w are on the latest now?

While SCCM 1610 here and on upgrade says Client version 5.00.8458.1000, after doing the update last night, I am seeing it being client version 5.00.8458.1007. Not sure this was changed after or not, but figured it could be helpful info.

Same here - was related to upgrading our system using the hotfix: KB3214042 (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3214042). Site version remains the 5.00.8458.1000, but the agents seem to be bumped to 5.00.8458.1007. Just my understanding since we deployed those two slightly apart manually.

Dolph Triumph, September 27, 2012 at 5:38 pm I stopped by this place on a whim and decided to check it out. It’s pretty cool for being an antique shop. The stuff you can find in there, the “little treasures” are interesting, and some of it is junk. Other stuff, however, is really cool. I found an old pocket watch that was a steal. Check it out. You never know what you will find!

When I updated to CM 1606 my build number is 5.00.8412.1000 NOT 5.00.8412.1007, was this a typo in the instruction set?

Do the installation provide information on where to download the latest releases? The VLSC portal does not clearly list version or release numbers.

Not sure on the wording for your upgrade guide. We're on 2012 R2 CU1 - can we go straight to 1602, or does it need to be 1511 first and then apply the upgrade? Thanks

Hi My lab site still shows Site version 5.00.8239.1000 (console is 1302). They're on the same machine. Is this right? If I run CU2 again it just says it's already installed.

Benoit Lecours

A CU don't update your site version. 1301 AND 1302 is CU2. There was 2 release of the CU2 console to fix an issue.
