The new version of SCCM is out ! You may know this version as SCCM Vnext, SCCM 2016 or SCCM 1511. The product group explained on their blog that the new version will be simply called SCCM Current Branch. This blog post is a complete Step-by-step SCCM Installation Guide. SCCM installation has never been an easy process and the product itself can be complex for inexperienced administrators. With these blog posts, our goal is to bring it a bit further, explaining concepts and best practice rather than just guide the user through the installation process. If you’re not familiar with SCCM 1511 Features, you can visit this Technet article which covers it all. If you’re familiar with SCCM 2012 and plans to migrate, read our blog post about What’s New in SCCM 1511 and stop reading this guide. You do not need to do a complete installation if you’re already running SCCM 2012. See our blog post on how … Read More

Configure SCCM 2012 Boundaries

In this part of this SCCM 2012 and SCCM 1511 blog series, we will configure SCCM boundaries. First, let’s define what a boundary in SCCM is : From Technet : In System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, a boundary is a network location on the intranet that can contain one or more devices that you want to manage. Boundaries can be an IP subnet, Active Directory site name, IPv6 Prefix, or an IP address range, and the hierarchy can include any combination of these boundary types. To use a boundary, you must add the boundary to one or more boundary groups. Boundary groups are collections of boundaries. By using boundary groups, clients on the intranet can find an assigned site and locate content when they have to install software, such as applications, software updates, and operating system images. A boundary does not enable clients to be managed at the network location. To manage … Read More

Browsing Sites in Create Boundary Section won’t provide Multi-Domain Active Directory Sites

One of the fundamentals aspect of configuration manager is the boundary because you can’t manage anything without a boundary.  (Thanks to Torsten for pointing that it’s possible to manage client without a boundary).  There’s different types of boundary like, IP subnet, IP address range, IPv6 prefix and active directory site. The last one is the recommended method and it’s the easiest to manage. We recently migrate our infrastructure to SCCM 2012 and we have an issue during the boundary configuration. What happen if you have 2 domains with the same active directory site? No big deal, both will be detectable with their respective domain. You think? Yes, we were able to handle it with SCCM 2007. Everything was going perfect when we activated the active directory forest discovery in the discovery methods and checked the box “Automatically create Active Directory site boundaries when they are discovered” to populate sites within forests. … Read More
